Post Operative Rehabilitation
The goals of rehabilitation are multifaceted. Initially the goal is to relieve and/or resolve clinical symptoms that arise at the time of the injury. Many times medication, physical modalities, rest and/or periods of immobilization are used. Surgical intervention may be necessary to if the pathology is significant enough. However, alleviation of the symptoms is only part of the goal. It is also extremely important to restore function. Thus, a program must be designed to address strength, power, flexibility, and balance deficits that may have occurred with the injury. Remember that absence of symptoms does not equate to normal function. Finally, a comprehensive program will not only prevent recurrent injury, but it can lead to an overall fitness program.
